Which ONE Simple Discipline Will Transform Your Life?

“Success is nothing more than a few simple disciplines, practiced every day; while failure is simply a few errors in judgment, repeated every day. It is the accumulative weight of our disciplines and our judgments that leads us to either fortune or failure.” –

Jim Rohn

Well, that pretty much sums it up, doesn’t it? A few simple disciplines – practiced every day. Or: a few errors in judgment, repeated every day.

Success (almost) never comes “overnight”. Neither does failure. It involves a long series of consistent steps.
But this Brilliance Nugget wouldn’t be very “brilliant” if it degenerated into a lecture. Pretty much everyone knows this piece of wisdom. Yet, hearing it again is a powerful reminder.

I have a challenge in mind – for you and for me: Pick ONE simple discipline that you know would enhance your success, your well-being, or your health. ONE! Not two, or three or five. You overachievers, you! (I am right there with you.)

Whatever you declare, if it feels a little uncomfortable that is okay, even good.

Here are some ideas:

  • Tidy up your office for 15 minutes each workday.
  • Build or deepen one new business relationship each day. It can be as simple as asking for feedback on your work.
  • Every day, tell someone that you are grateful for them. Be specific and say what you are grateful for.

Declare it to someone. Practice it for 30 days.

For me, writing the Brilliance Nuggets has become a daily discipline (sometimes I write a few so I can have a day or two off). Declaring that one would be “chickening out” – because I got that discipline under my belt by now.

Having said that, I have decided that mine is this one:

Build or deepen one new business relationship each day. It can be as simple as asking for feedback on my Declaration of Brilliance. The emphasis is on relationships – and getting feedback. It is not about selling.

I’m Curious

Which simple discipline will you adopt and practice over the next 30 days? Please drop me a line or comment below.

What a great topic, Stephie! Sometimes we just need a little jolt to get us going!!

There are so many things I have been wanting to start: taking the time to stop to talk with others (I sometimes opt for a quick “Good Morning” when a real conversation would be so much more fulfilling!!); practicing more random acts of kindness (it is amazing how my day is so much sweeter when I have done this!); discern three things I want to get done over the course of the next year.

I am going to start with the first one on the list.

That is so great! If you want to have a real conversation with me as well, I’m game. 🙂
