Celebrating With Wisdom From the Book of Proverbs

This Brilliance Nugget is my 100th one! I committed to writing one per day (rain or shine) for one year. Of course, we need to celebrate this milestone. What is our “Champagne?” What could be better in celebrating with wisdom from the Book of Proverbs?!

The wise woman builds her house, but with her own hands the foolish one tears hers down.

Proverb 14:1

That is a big piece of wisdom. We can build ourselves up, or we can succumb to self-sabotage.

For example, there is a difference between reflecting on your actions and work versus criticizing yourself on an ongoing basis. Telling yourself that you are not good enough, no matter what you do, tears you down. It is of no service to anyone.

Yes, we are imperfect. We are human. Yet, let’s find a bit of love for ourselves and appreciate the “house” we have built. Even if that house is imperfect, it still gives shelter, not only for you but others as well.

As a concrete example, you may be writing a book. Do you hide it from the world because you think it is not good enough? Or do you allow others to read it and benefit from it?

How does this proverb apply to my journey of writing the Brilliance Nuggets?

I could not succeed on this journey without remembering to build my “house,” despite inevitable imperfections. Perfectionism is often disguised as “the highest standard of all.” There was a time when I, too, believed that.

Yet, Perfectionism is often detrimental to creating impact by sharing what we’ve got. Perfectionism is one way to tear down the “house.”

I invite you to share your brilliance. Don’t let perfectionism – or other ways of tearing down your house – stop you from making a difference.

Another Great Proverb

Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm.

Proverb 13:20

How true! Who we surround ourselves with matters A LOT! Our companions influence our attitude, actions, inactions, and what we learn. It also affects our opportunities and income.

Jim Rohn put it this way: “You’re The Average Of The Five People You Spend The Most Time With.” For me, that is one of several great reasons to be part of amazing clubs like Rotary Club and Toastmasters.

I am walking this journey with YOU! You have shared some of your wisdom with me (thank you!), and you have supported me in sharing some of mine (again, thank you!). You are truly incredible companions!

I’m Curious

  • Who are your five people with whom you spent the most time?
  • Which Brilliance Nugget is your favorite one so far (bonus: why?)?

Hi Stephie! Great post. These are a couple of great “nuggets”. This post reminded me about all of the great wisdom that is in Proverbs.
